On one of our recent visits — no major mission in mind — my husband and I wandered the aisles, just the two of us. That alone was a treat! But then, something caught my eye: a popsicle ice maker kit. Super simple. Nothing fancy. Just a little mold set that screamed, "Your kids will LOVE this."
Of course, my husband gave me that look and asked, “Do you think they’ll actually use that?”
I said, confidently, “Yes. Watch when I tell them.”
At checkout, I even double-checked the bag to make sure the popsicle mold made it in — because let’s face it, with IKEA’s maze of finds, things mysteriously vanish between the aisles and the register.
When we got home, I made it seem like we had just brought back a treasure. Our middle child came running when I said, “Guess what?”
“What is it?” he asked, eyes wide.
“Look inside the bag.”
He peeked in and his face just lit up. That reaction — that — was the moment I was waiting for.
I turned to my husband with the biggest grin and said, “See? Told you so.”
Without missing a beat, our middle one washed the mold and said, “Okay, I’m gonna make one now!” His main ingredient? Oreos, of course. Because what else would a kid use to invent the ultimate popsicle?
He asked for help with the blender, did his thing, and before I knew it, he had completed his very first popsicle. I was just standing there, watching him in full creative mode — completely forgetting to take a picture. But you know what? I was too busy soaking in the moment
.
Then our youngest joined in, adding his own twist to the popsicle recipe — still with Oreos, but adding his own flair. This time, I remembered to capture that big, proud smile on camera. His face glowed with joy.
And my husband? Well, he ended up helping them pour the mix and taste-testing every “invention” like a true popsicle connoisseur. He was smiling the whole time. I think he had as much fun as the kids.
That $5 find? Worth every penny.
