The Start of Something Special
Our journey as a traveling family began simply: a road trip to visit family in San Francisco. As summer break started for our kids, my spontaneous nature as a mom took over. I have always loved taking our family out on road trips, regardless of the circumstances. For me, venturing beyond our capacity to explore new places has always been about breaking through barriers and finding meaningful experiences.
Traveling Through a Pandemic
When we headed to San Francisco, the world was in the midst of the prime COVID season. Social distancing, travel restrictions, and government policies were at the forefront of every decision. But for us, family has always been about togetherness, with respect and love at its core. There were boundaries to honor, yet an undeniable pull to reunite. We took the risk, trusting in faith, believing that God would guide us and keep us safe.
A Drive Through Silence and Hope
As we drove through quiet highways and passed through uncertain times, our anticipation grew. The thought of seeing family, even from a distance, was enough. In that moment, love transcended the barriers placed before us. We respected the rules, wore our masks, and stood a few feet apart—but we were there. We could see each other, hear each other, and feel the warmth of our presence.
The Beauty of Presence Without Touch
There was laughter. The children longed to play together. The parents yearned for their children's hugs and kisses. Siblings wanted to embrace, but reality demanded restraint. Yet, even without touch, love filled the space between us. Just knowing that family was near, safe, and well was a blessing beyond words.
Savoring the Local Experience
Even if there were restraints, we were able to venture out and enjoy some unforgettable experiences. We indulged in the famous Blue Fin Tuna at Akira Restaurant, finally saw the renowned San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, and watched our children expand their palates with the real deal of ramen—their reactions said it all. We also visited the original house from the classic sitcom Full House and soaked in the cool California weather, which typically stays between 50 to 70 degrees in San Francisco.
Why I Keep Saying Yes to Adventure
That road trip reminded me of why I have always pursued adventure, even when the odds seemed against us. It’s about the memories we create, the love we nurture, and the faith that binds us. That summer, we proved that no matter the challenges, as long as we have faith and respect, family will always find a way to stay connected.
